Master Jeffrey D. Modell, Sensei, 5th Dan Isshinryu Karate, began studying martial arts in the seventies. He is a certificated Sensei, an instructor teaching advanced material, and a member of the Black Belt Promotions Board under Hanshi Willie Adams at the Southfield Martial Arts Institute, in Michigan, USA. He believes the best way to pay back the superb martial artists who taught him is to teach others. “It is a great day if one student who wants to learn attends my class.” He authored the First Edition of the Isshinryu Textbook. It evolved from a pamphlet prepared by him in response to increasingly frequent requests by students (and growing circles of their friends) for copies of his personal notes to assist in studying for their Black Belt examinations. Prior to joining Hanshi Adams’ headquarters Dojo he was mainly a practitioner of Gung Fu but had studied Isshinryu while in high school. Master Modell continues his CMA studies privately. He has a special interest in designing combat-grade martial arts weapons, and specialized edged weaponry to help assure the safety of law enforcement and military personnel, through Modell Design LLC. Credits include, but are not limited to, the famous integral Wing Chun Butterfly Knives, the flagship and Tomb Warrior lines for Everything Wing Chun®, and Urasuki Butterfly Knives. His authorized adaption of the Sasquatch-style blade for Wing Chun use was featured in Blade Magazine. He has written articles for, and/or been interviewed by, Kung Fu Tai Chi and Wing Chun Illustrated magazines on Butterfly Swords. Wing Chun Illustrated called him “THE PREMIER DESIGNER OF BUTTERFLY SWORDS IN THE UNITED STATES, AND PERHAPS EVEN THE WORLD - IN FACT, HE HAS BEEN CREDITED WITH MODERNISING THE WING CHUN BUTTERFLY SWORDS DESIGN.”
