Stimulated by the portrayals of women in Offenbach's opera The Tales of Hoffmann, the author is led to wonder what a perfect man would look like. Poetic fancy turns into a story, which is in the process of being made into a movie. The goal of the film is supposed to be a depiction of the ideal man in real life.
