Larry L. Maxwell was born in Silver City, New Mexico and raised in the Gila Valley, which led to his abiding love of the outdoors and wildlife. He and his new wife ventured to Alaska as newlyweds, This adventure of a lifetime contributed to his desire to write. Later, after he had moved to Arizona and was shown a pamphlet about Jacob Waltz and his gold mining, Larry challenged himself to write about "Jacob's Gold."
