ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jennifer Woods

Jennifer Woods is a mother of 4 and currently a grandmother of 6. Her inspiration to educate and encourage young children comes from her memory of the times she spent with her father after he had to temporarily take on a more domestic role and her mother became head of household. Before she started preschool, she spent many hours watching PBS TV programs like Sesame Street which was focused on preparing young children for school and Mr. Rogers which was focused on teaching children about real life situations using music, skits, a make-believe world and puppetry. If she was not watching PBS, her father was either telling her stories, singing a silly song or singing the traditional alphabet song. Like her father her mother encouraged her as well, when she started middle school her mother enrolled her in schools that offered specialty type courses like computer science and arranged for her to participate in other activities she had an interest in like dancing, arts or sewing. As a teenager, the love for song and dance would continue, Jennifer was fascinated with Bill "Bojangles" Robinson and Shirley Temple, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Elvis Presley movies. Her fascination inspired her to become a student of Leon Collins at “Star Steps Studio” in Roxbury Massachusetts where she learned she had real talent and skills as a tap dancer. Nevertheless, she would not explore her talents to its depths instead she continued to pursue her love of technology and this led her to begin a career as a systems developer and later a business analyst. While pursuing her career, she revisited her love for song, dance and the arts by producing a charity fashion show that exhibited the creations of local designers and artists in the Massachusetts area. Later in life, no matter how busy Jennifer was with her career, the love of song and dance would reemerge as a way for her to escape from everyday life matters. She would create and sing songs to comfort her children and grandchildren when they were uneasy and to create fun moments to stimulate laugh and dance. Some of her songs were focused on teaching them how to count or how to memorize the alphabet. One summer while spending time with her granddaughter, a vibrant little girl named Amiah. Jennifer begin singing a song “Alphabet Letters in My Soup”using a melody she listened to when she was a little girl. Every time Amiah visited her, Jennifer and her youngest daughter Arion would sing the song until one day Amiah was singing the ABCs from A to Z. Jennifer continued to sing the song to her other grandchildren and was excited to hear them repeat after her saying their ABCs from A to Z. Jennifer’s passion to share the song has intensified. Now, she would like to share the song with children around the world. Her first children’s book “Alphabet Letters in My Soup” started with her calling Warner Chappell to get approval to use a melody based on Ray Henderson’s melody “Animal Crackers in my Soup”. The presentation was not known at the time. Once the usage was approved, Warner Chappell connected her with Alfred Music to obtain the approvals to start the ALMS project. As things evolved, the decision was made to present the song in a children’s book. The platform for the book is “A Venue 4 Kids”. A Venue 4 Kids is in its beginning stages, a platform where parents can find educational resources, other fun activities and products specialized in encouraging kids to learn and to be creative. Jennifer’s message to kids is… There is no limit to what you can achieve in life. It starts with believing it is possible!”.
