Who’s Engaged? Climb the Learning Ladder to See introduces a practical and research-based lesson development process focused on engaging students to learn. The Learning Ladder is a visual that teachers use to create lessons focused on what students need to be successful. You will learn how to: • create learning targets that scaffold learning from simple to complex skills; • align learning tasks to the targets to gather student data; • align practice and feedback strategies that guide students to success; and • evaluate the learning outcomes over the course of a unit of instruction. In this book, I introduce a Student Engagement Framework outlining a sequenced approach to the lesson development process in 30-day planning increments. The goal is to create engaged learning environments that guide students to achieve complex skills. Included are steps for designing lessons, lesson samples, and teacher reflections. An accompanying 30-day lesson planning tool, iLessonReady, provides an additional resource for teachers to create engaged classrooms.
