ABOUT THE BOOK

Lancaster Precision was written for experienced duplicate bridge players who want to improve their game. Lancaster Precision is a step-by-step approach that can be an introduction to Precision for the duplicate bridge world. Eight opening Precision bids are described individually, one at a time. This approach allows a partnership to study these eight opening bids at their own speed and to consider adding any of these opening bid approaches to their current Standard American or 2/1 bidding system while they continue to study what I call Lancaster Precision. The actual Precision opening bid of 1 club is the last of the eight opening bids discussed. The book is different from other Precision books in that the bidding structure for both the opener and the responder is contained in appendices rather than in the body of the book. The appendices are a road map for easily understanding the appropriate Precision responses based upon both opener's and responder's holdings. You can open more often and because of smaller point ranges used in this bidding system, the partnership can better judge the level of their final contract – part game, game or slam – and therefore obtain a better result. I developed this unique approach over a ten year period in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and used documents like the appendices for the partnership to study and refer to in remembering the bidding structure.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

James R. Benson

I am a Ruby Life Master and have played duplicate bridge since November, 2002. Working 30 years in air pollution control as a Chemical Engineer with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Environmental Protection, I returned to college for a degree in accounting. After working as an accountant for several years, I retired and began to play duplicate bridge in earnest. For nearly ten years I have been playing Precision with several partners and during this time have been attempting to improve a Precision bidding approach. I love logical systems, numbers and organization which, I hope, has enabled me to simplify a complex bidding system of Precision. I have been married for 47 years to my wife; have 2 grown sons and 7 grandchildren, none of whom are interested in playing bridge at this time. I still have hope for the grandkids. My wife says we either play bridge together or stay married. I have chosen wisely, I think.
