I dusted off my 25 year old hiking gear and took the family hiking. It was supposed to be 3 short days, but a chance encounter on the trail started a 3 year project to section hike the Benton Mackaye Trail before I turned 50 and my son turned 14. The Benton Mackaye Trail meanders 300 miles from Springer Mountain, Georgia through Tennessee, North Carolina, the Great Smokey Mountain National Park ending at Davenport Gap.
