ABOUT THE BOOK

This book is about the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) "Matatag" Class of 1971, arguably the most controversial class to emerge from the Academy since its founding. The character, education, and training acquired from their rigorous four-year stay at PMA virtually assured each of them a successful, progressive and professional military career. Growing along the traditional role of the military, the class evolved from young lieutenants fighting the CPP/NPA Maoist insurgency and the MNLF rebellion to lieutenant colonels commanding battalions, provincial commands, and Navy ships. The path to a successful career from 1971 to 1986 was on track. Ironically, the participation of some members of the class in the failed military coups in 1987 and 1989 against the person they put in power during the historic February 1986 Revolution turned their otherwise glorious military careers to uncertainty. Over the course of thirty-one years that started in 1989, did the Matatag class of ’71 thrive from the stigma of belonging to the class of military rebels? The book BROTHERS that tells the comprehensive inside story of the class may provide the answer.
