Racing against time and doubling down on their odds of escaping the pursuing Federal Cavalry in April 1865, the so-called Confederate Treasure Train raced from Richmond, VA until running out of track in South Carolina. The Treasure Train, now a Wagon-Train, lumbered precariously across a pontoon bridge into Georgia. Silver, gold and copper coins and bank wealth were on-board, and money was dispersed, purloined and looted all along the way. Stories include how Confederate President Jeff Davis lost his rare and irreplaceable Confederate half-dollar, who snagged the "SWAG" (Richmond Bank gold), as gold coins were heisted by bushwhackers. Unique final-payroll mementos were engraved from Mexican silver coins; the eulogy to the Confederacy written on a $500 Confederate paper note.
