It's been 100 years since Humanity emerged from a magical apocalypse and despite the fact that infrastructure and public works are fairly good at keeping their people healthy, wealthy and wise; there's still the issue that monsters spawn out of the dark every night. In order to combat this problem, magically empowered individuals known as Guardians are tasked with fighting them off and keeping the populace safe. These monsters start small, but if left unchecked will grow bigger and bigger as the night wears on. Therefore, all ages are tasked with doing their part to keep keep their numbers down. 11-14 year olds handle the smaller ones from 6pm-9pm, older teenagers handle the more dangerous creatures from 9-1am and after that the adults take over to deal with the truly bizzare and dangerous terrors before the sun rises and burns them away. To be a Guardian, you don't have to be the chosen one, you don't have to be descended from a sacred bloodline, you don't have to attend a special boarding school; all you have to do is head down to Arcanawatch HQ and get your license.
