ABOUT THE BOOK

Sometimes the most important journeys don’t take you farther away, they take you deeper. When Marvin the Mole sets out on a familiar road along historic Route 66, he expects another thoughtful adventure filled with discovery, history, and good company. What he doesn’t expect is to be drawn beneath the surface, into vast canyons, ancient caverns, and moments of stillness that challenge everything he thinks he knows about courage and direction. Joined by his spirited cousin Maxie, inventive Marcie, and the ever-steady Javelina Hank, Marvin travels from lively desert towns to the edge of the Grand Canyon itself. Along the way, they face mysteries, get turned around, test their trust in one another, and learn that not every challenge is meant to be rushed, or solved the same way. As the trail breaks and the ground grows quiet, Marvin’s Mole-Sense is tested like never before. To move forward, he must learn when to act, when to wait, and when to listen to what the earth has been saying all along. Marvin the Mole: The Tunnel Under the Rim a Route 66 Journey is a heartfelt adventure that blends humor, history, and reflection into a story about friendship, resilience, and the strength found in stillness. Perfect for readers who love meaningful journeys, memorable places, and characters who grow in ways that feel true. Because sometimes, the ground beneath you knows the way home.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

A. J. Allbrite

A. J. Allbrite (Alex Jacob Allbrite) is a lifelong storyteller inspired by the open highways and timeless landscapes of the American West. After traveling from California to Utah for university studies, his journeys through Bryce and Zion National Parks, Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, and the historic towns along Route 66 left a lasting creative imprint. Now living in Kingman, Arizona, in the foothills of the Hualapai Mountains, Alex draws daily inspiration from the desert and its rich sense of history. Much of his Route 66 inspired writing is influenced by stories shared by his wife of 40 years, his high school sweetheart, whose childhood travels along Route 66 in a 1956 Chevy Bel-Air helped bring the road’s spirit to life. Alex believes that curiosity is one of the most important tools we carry through life. Inspired by real places, meaningful journeys, and the quiet lessons found along the way, these stories are written for readers who like to explore both the world around them and the thoughts inside their own minds. The Marvin the Mole series blends adventure, humor, and heart with gentle reflections on courage, problem-solving, friendship, and the strength that comes from paying attention. Marvin’s adventures often draw from history, geography, and the natural world, inviting readers to see familiar places in new ways. Whether traveling along historic roads, venturing beneath the ground, or navigating unexpected challenges, Marvin approaches each experience with thoughtfulness, curiosity, and a willingness to learn, qualities the author hopes to encourage in readers of all ages. When not writing, the author enjoys exploring interesting places, asking big questions, and noticing the small details that often become the beginnings of new stories. Through Marvin the Mole, young readers are invited to discover that bravery doesn’t always roar, that challenges help shape who we become, and that curious journeys can begin anywhere. Alex finds great joy in creating the whimsical adventures of Marvin the Mole, stories that celebrate imagination, friendship, and the magic of the open road.
