ABOUT THE BOOK

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Whitbourne Hutchinson

Bishop Whitbourne Emanuel Hutchinson is affectionately known as “Brother Hutch” or simply “Hutch.” He is a native of Jamaica, West Indies, who migrated to the USA in April 1967. He is the second child of Ferdinand & Vincelita McCathy Hutchinson, originally from Plowden (Alligator Pond), the parish of Manchester (with Mandeville as its capital). Whitbourne fell in love with Jesus as a child and remembers his favorite verse being “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me” (Proverbs 8:17, KJV). He pursued a life in Christ, and after migrating to the United States at age 21, he studied at the Germain School of Photography. Following his studies, he found employment as a computer operator on Wall Street, while continuing to work as a freelance photographer. The Barby Street Church of God of Prophecy (COGOP)—now known as Malta Street COGOP—where Bishop Rufus R. Rogers served as pastor, became his church home. In 1970, he accepted the call to ministry, becoming a lay minister. Youth Ministry Director, Public Relations Director, Choir Director, and other varied areas of service, including transportation, became opportunities for him to serve people and develop his areas of gifting. In Brooklyn, New York, he met and later married his loving, lifelong spouse, Ingrid Ann Pole. They were wed on Wednesday, April 18, 1973, and look forward to their 53rd anniversary in 2026, God willing. Under the leadership of Bishop E. L. Jones, Regional Overseer of the Northeast US Region, he served as Youth Director and Public Relations Director for the State of New York and then transitioned into pastoral work. In 1979, at the invitation of Bishop Rufus R. Rogers, then Regional Overseer (now known as Regional Presbyter), he pastored Long Look COGOP in Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI), and Gamle Gade COGOP in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands (USVI). His passion for knowledge, especially of God’s Word, drove him to relocate to the US mainland, where the call of God to Pastor the Wilson Street COGOP in Chattanooga, Tennessee, held him for a full decade. By the end of his tenure, he had completed a bachelor’s degree in ministry and a minor in Business Administration at Tomlinson College (TC) in Cleveland, TN, in 1983. Later, in May 2008, he earned a Master of Arts in Bible Exposition from Pensacola Theological Seminary through Pensacola Christian College (PCC) in Pensacola, Florida. The call to relocate to Buffalo, New York, followed in August 1995, where he pastored Dayspring COGOP. He and Ingrid started Dayspring Christian Academy (K2-10th grade), which focused on the Body, Mind, Soul, and Spirit of each child that walked through its doors. The family finally returned to St. Thomas, USVI, in 2001 to aid Ingrid’s parents, who had become like his own. Little did he realize that that move would eventually include serving as Assistant Pastor, followed by Senior Pastor at Gamle Gade. In 2009, he was appointed Senior Pastor at C5 Hoffman and District Presbyter of St. Thomas/St. John, and finally, Regional Presbyter of the Northeast Caribbean—the ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, & Curaçao); the BVI; and the USVI—(now known as the Paragon Region) from 2010 to 2020. He retired from formal appointment (NOT ministry) in response to God’s timing and continues to serve the Church and the Kingdom, including sharing the life-giving Word wherever God requests. A significant priority has also been to give back to his family precious, quality relational moments. Bro. Hutch gives God praise for blessing their union with seven live births. Their family-loving children are Vietta Ann; Venere Emanuel (born in 1975 and deceased in 2015 @ the age of 40); Verona Celeste; Victor Emanuel &Vincent Emanuel (twins born in 1984 and deceased in 1984 @ 30 and 31 minutes, respectively); and Deborah Vania & Daniel Vaughn (living twins). They are blessed to have four of the sweetest grandchildren (from their first offspring, Vietta Ann): Cristiánn Ai, Yasmín Azusa, Orlando Emanuel Akeno, and Otoniel Isacar Akio.
