Edward A. Betts is a seasoned writer and educator with more than 35 years of experience in creating instructional materials. With a portfolio that includes over 20 textbooks and hundreds of articles, he has made significant contributions to the field of hyperbaric and dive education. A trailblazer in both industries, Ed is also renowned as a World Record-holding diver and an engineer specializing in diving and hyperbaric equipment. His innovative inventions have played a pivotal role in shaping industry standards, contributing to the advancement of safety protocols and technologies. He has trained over 1000 diving instructors and hundreds of medical professionals worldwide. Born on Long Island, New York, Ed has been at the forefront of diving safety since his first dive. His career has evolved from early experiences in Northeast wreck diving and salvage to becoming a leading designer and developer of cutting-edge hyperbaric equipment, including high-efficiency oxygen concentrators and innovative hyperbaric chambers.
