Tess Langston, the creator of Growing Up on the Spectrum, is an autistic writer, artist, and the founder of ShadowCast Studio.
Tess is the creator behind “Coffee Ghost” and “Legend Catcher.” She has also been a contributor to Oneshi Press with co-writing and drawing “Mr. Guy: Zombie Hunter in ‘The Cheese Cave Files’” and “Indie Readmore & the Hive of Scum & Villainy,” along with inking for “Children of Gaia: Cohorts” and creating guest art for Mr. Guy: Act 2 and Tracy Queen V4: This Is Huge.
As early as 3-4 years old, Tess was diagnosed with infantile autism. Through years of hard work, extensive therapies, and the support of her family, she found different methods of communication with the neurotypical world around her, including art. She found that through art, she could communicate not only visually, but emotionally, too.
Her love of sequential storytelling sprouted from being read Where the Wild Things Are and grew with animation, Sunday comics, manga, and graphic novels. Every chance she gets, she crams her three biggest special interests—biology, mythology, and comics/animation—into her work. Her muses are monsters, emotional vulnerability, and the extremes of snappy comedy and dark horror.
