ABOUT THE BOOK

Christian families have been sending their children into a spiritual meat grinder known as “college” for decades, wondering why most of their kids graduate hating their parents’ beliefs. Through spending nearly 20 years in the world of higher education as a student, sta?, and campus minister, C. Philip Carlson discovered why this is happening, and why American churches are hemorrhaging the next generation. Through reflection on his own experiences in higher education, conversations with professors, examination of historical movements, and engagement with Scriptural ideas, Philip not only pulls back the curtain on what has been happening in higher education, but also what we can all do about it. He also shares why discipleship properly defined and practiced in the home and the workplace is the front line of changing these trends. Whether you are a parent of a current, future or past university student, an interested family member, or just interested in what has been happening and how to respond, you will find practical steps here on how to address it.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

C Philip Carlson

C. Philip Carlson is the husband of Christy Noel Carlson and father of two boys with a baby due to be born in the summer of 2026. As Area Director of Christian Business Men’s Connection’s mission in Dallas-Fort Worth his focus is making disciples among men in the workplace who will impact their companies, families, neighborhoods, and ultimately the world with the Gospel of Jesus the Messiah. He holds two degrees from Southern Methodist University (B.A. and M.Div.) and has spent time doing post-graduate work at both Regent University and Evangelical Seminary. A key area of study for him has been the Moravian missions movement, its impact on the early Methodist revivals, as well as its relationship to the increasingly prominent rise of Messianic Jewish communities today.
