This all got started in 1968. At that time, in addition to managing a nine-acre family-run organic farm and nursery in Lincoln MA, Stewart's main livelihood was manufacturing and selling canoe and kayak paddles made of aluminum, fiberglass, and epoxy. The work involved using various hazardous chemicals and he was looking for a much healthier way to earn a living. With a background in art on both sides of his family plus a lifelong passion for recreational mathematics, he decided to try something along those lines. So he started experimenting with geometric shapes in his workshop which was well-equipped from his various previous enterprises. Flash forward to the present and in this book he has cataloged and organized the result of several decades of creating what he has named "AP-ART", the art that comes apart!
