ABOUT THE BOOK

Moto perpetuo • (Perpetual Motion) This through-composed composition uses short melodic motives over repetitive arpeggios for its entirety. The 5/8 meter compliments the hand position of the shifting arpeggios while repeating the eighth-note pattern up or down an octave. This creates a floating, free-form atmosphere by avoiding clear metric downbeats. Tension results from unusual and unexpected changes in the harmony.
