William S. Armistead is a Washington-based author, retired businessman, and former adjunct professor of finance. Long interested in golf course architecture and the figures who shaped the game’s great landscapes, he is the author of two previous books on the subject: The Orchards—100 Years and The History of Golf at Hotchkiss. A member of Chevy Chase Club, he has drawn on primary sources, contemporary accounts, and independent research to bring analytical discipline and narrative perspective to the story.
